How to Make India Electric Bus Friendly country?

(A) Infrastructure development
Charging station:- Charging (AC Fast charging) stations should be set up by the government covering the whole country and DC Superfast chargers should be in major metros (Tire I and II cities).

Electronic roads:-
On average the range of diesel bus is about 500 km and a CNG bus is about 300 km. Comparing it with the average range of an Electric Bus in India is about 250 km. This is the greatest limitation. Instead, promotion of Hybrid Buses should be done which solves the purpose of frequent short electric drive and use of gasoline for an infrequent long-distance drive.

Use of renewable source of energy to achieve the ultimate objective:-
When we are talking about Electric Bus and go green, we should not forget about the ultimate origin of electricity. Thus, promotion of renewable solar electricity should be promoted hand in hand.

5G:
All these EV comes with the latest M2M (Machine to Machine) embedded 5G ready sim. Thus, focus on development of a network to get the best out of technology.

(B) Cost of the vehicle
Promote localised production of buses:-
The government should welcome major automobile companies to establish local production facilities to lower the cost of buses.

Attract ancillary industries (Lithium-ion cells, photovoltaic cells etc.):-
Ancillary industries which produce components should also be passed benefit to reduce cost of bus.

Make policies which are really transparent:-
Transparent policies should not only remain in papers. To expect positive results those policies should be practically transparent.

Promote integration of the photovoltaic system in vehicle:-
To increase the range of Electric Bus use of photovoltaic cells should be used on bus which would convert solar energy into electric energy.

Decrease cost of bus:-
Average running of city bus per route is maximum 100 km. New buses should be developed having battery swapping facility, thus, by decreasing the range of bus ultimately reduces the battery cost which is one major component of Electric Bus so that bus becomes more affordable. By doing this total cost of bus becomes half for which is available right now.

(C) Government incentive scheme
GST Rates:-
Though EVs GST rate has been reduced from 12% to 5% still GST on Hybrid Vehicles is 28% and 15% cess which is too high. It should be lower.

State government local road and vehicle tax (RTO):-
Very few state governments are EV pro. Every state government should have a uniform policy of local RTO and road/vehicle tax all over the country and caution should be made to levy lower tax rates as already these buses are expensive.

Subsidies:-
Subsidies should be given one who purchases the Electric Bus.

(D) Financial assistance
Investment in start-ups:-
Government should encourage start-ups for development of technology.

Easy loans process with lower interest rates:-
Procedure of loans should be made easy and interest rates attracted to Electric Bus should be lower as compared to other buses (ICE).

Increase technical knowledge
Education among public:-
There are many instances where people are not knowing many government schemes which are already implemented due to lack of communication. These benefits and promotional schemes should be communicated.

Skill development programmes for technicians: -
Training should be provided to mechanics so that there will be no bottleneck at the time of need.

(E) Increase technical knowledge

Skill development programmes for technicians:-
Training should be provided to mechanics so that there will be no bottleneck at the time of need.

(F) Special consideration for public modal transport
Use of Electric Bus as mandatory public transport (inter-city): -
All state transport commercial vehicles should be Electric Bus. Steps should be taken to convert all government official’s cars in EV too.

Attention to fleet owners providing taxi services:-
Fleet owners like Aadinath Bulk Private Ltd etc. should be encouraged to convert all vehicles into EV.

(G) Attract bus transport companies by offering added advantages
Free parking plots: -
Parking is one of the big issue in India. To promote EV proposal of free parking exclusively for EV should be setup.

Free charging:-
Some charging points of AC Fast charging should be set up and be free to use for EV owners. Charges form DC Superfast Charging should be affordable.

Lower toll-taxes for EV compared to conventional vehicles:-
A lower amount of toll-taxes should be charged in Electric Bus so intra-city transport using EV can be encouraged.

Trip planning feature:-
A map should be developed which depicts the real-time free or available charging station for vehicle and finds charging stations which would come on the planned route.

To ensure the success of Electric Bus in mainstream public transport facility, the best way is to hire the transport agencies who are already handling city and corporate bus operations. With the help of their operations expertise it would be effortless task as they already have the required infrastructure, knowledge about market and relations with the clients.
